The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel tore through Las Vegas on October 12, turning streets into rivers and setting a new rainfall record for the city. Southern Nevada bore the brunt of the storm, with flash floods swamping roads across the west valley.
Despite the heavy rain, Lake Mead levels saw little change. Rachel also pushed dangerous surf toward California beaches and homes. Flood risk across the southwestern U.S. has since largely subsided. Separate storms tied to Rachel killed five people in Mexico.
