Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has unveiled a proposal for a fresh migration channel inspired by Canada’s model.
It would allow firms, higher‑education institutions and local organisations to sponsor refugees, granting aid for homes and jobs.
The objective is to hasten settlement and reduce pressure on the existing system.
Mahmood says the route could welcome thousands of new arrivals, like the Ukrainian model implemented previously.
Critics warn the plan may burden public services.
The government has not provided a timetable.
